This is old news but I spent two years deciding whether discussion belonged here or in Project Megan.
Synopsis: An adult woman trolls unstable teen girl on MySpace in the guise of teen hunk, Josh. Woman ends conversation with "I don’t know if I want to be friends with you anymore because I’ve heard that you are not very nice to your friends." and sends a copy of all conversations to the victim's friends.
Victim's friends all shit on victim for being a fat slut, girl loses mind and seeks out mom for help. Victim's mom ignores cry for help, deciding instead to yell at girl for wasting time on MySpace. Girl kills self. Father of girl lies to reporters, claims last message from "Josh" told girl to commit suicide (this was a lie since the FBI did not find any trace of this alleged message and all we have for evidence is the word of a grief-stricken father looking to shift blame).
Media reports story as 'Adult woman murders teen girl on purpose via MySpace!!'. Country loses mind, believes such a thing is possible in spite of all facts. Adult woman and husband lose jobs, receive death threats, vandalism, harrassment from community. Federal government takes woman to trial for creating an internet nick.
Cables - what does the troll community think of this amateur out-trolling the professionals? Please provide a link to the relevant "Do you believe in miracles?!" animated-gif-scat-shoop-mudkip-partyvan-pedo 4chan thread. What is Caruso going to do about this?
Mischief Maker - what is your opinion as a legal eagle? Don't get me wrong, I do recognize that suicide is a tragedy. The reason I sound like a callous ass is the actual tragedy in this situation is overshadowed by the bullshit made-up media frenzy tragedy, and all of our energy is going towards ignoring the actual problem, fixing what isn't broken, and bending the law to punish the innocent (innocent of manslaughter, anyway).
