He runs into my field of fire or he runs off by himself and if I didn't see where he went, it's a fun game of Marco Polo using gunfire and snarls to guide me before the damn dog dies. He precludes throwing grenades in most cases, since he's right there in the thick of it. He makes it tough to avoid a fight, too.
The one time I had people with me (I haven't picked up another party member yet, these were two people from Big Town that I was rescuing), they were amazingly stupid also. Attacked by Raiders, they ran off and, in a scene right out of GTA3, ran down into the river, thrashed around, and died. It was surreal. I gave them guns, what were they doing?
The AI and the graphical glitches are making this otherwise great game pretty frustrating sometimes. I never played Oblivion -- did people seem to float sometimes? There was a bridge I crossed and Dogmeat seemed to have trouble getting on it. When he did, he seemed to run up an invisible ramp and then crossed the bridge 3 feet above the floor. I DIDN'T KNOW R2D2DOGMEAT COULD FLY WTF. |
