I wasn't that deep into the first one, so some of my comparisons might not be really apt.

The gameplay seems much more balanced, as the computer is less willing to let me rank up 40 points on them. They even had Scranton, PA as a hometown, which made my day. Having Scranton/Wilkes Barre would have been even better, but I'm getting greedy. The Clash(football bullet time) isn't so much of a overpowering force as it was in the first game. I think the default settings for the quarters have been cut down even more from the first game, because they're now 2 minutes a piece, which I think is pretty great. I really can't understand the appeal of full regulation anything in a sports game, but that's probably because I'm not a huge sports fan.

The minigames for picking an injury, snapping a bone back into place, properly stabbing with a needle, are all pretty hilarious. The cutscenes of a spinal contusion or broken collar bone are really well done, and it does good by making some injuries something your guy just can't hop up from, which is something first game had in spades. There are still some little quests (score 200 yards rushing, get one sack) but the RPG elements seem pretty cut back. You can't pick your own stadium, the most you get is to answer questions as your star player to determine his stats, and even then you can't customize him or pick his nickname, and I haven't been yet given the chance to send hookers to the opposing team's hotel to lower their stamina(with AIDS).

They actually built late hits into a game mechanic rather than it just being that you could still tackle after the down. So now you could walk up to the guy you downed, take of his helmet and beat him with it, completely with blood spatter on the screen. All that shit makes me giggle like a fucking school girl and I don't know why. It's just the presentation of the violence is done in a very humorous manner. Everything from the money shot cutscenes of career ending injuries, to the special bullet time catches and dodges all have a pretty top notch presentation around them.
