As some of you may be aware, I just started buying DVDs. by Jerry Whorebach 11/18/2008, 8:50am PST
First, the good:

- Most titles that aren't new releases go for less than the price of a cinema ticket, which is by definition reasonable.
- You can buy freshly-printed copies of movies that were first released five, ten, even as much as twenty years ago.

Imagine walking out of Gamestop with a brand-new copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga! That you paid five bucks for! WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD THAT WOULD BE! (For a gay fucking hopeless comic collector-mentality sack of shit LIKE ME.)

Now, the bad:

- Half the DVDs come in enviro-friendly cardboard cases, which I won't pay money for on principle.
- The other half come in standard cases, but with cardboard or thin plastic slipcases that I can't imagine not throwing away the first time I take them off.

What is wrong with putting DVDs in DVD cases and leaving it at that? If you want to save the world, try making cases that are still durable, only smaller - say, not much bigger than a DVD. YOU CAN HAVE THAT ONE FOR FREE, INDUSTRY.

All in all, I don't yet regret my decision to enter this brave new field of consumption.
