Dear Ms. Cable

You don't know me, but I am an "internet acquaintance" of your sons, John and Josh. I have known them online for several years now. John has written in great detail about his upbringing and living situation, and I have no desire or right to comment on those at this time. I am writing you a letter to inform you about some recent behavior of John's that you may wish to know about.

Earlier this month, you may remember John getting a visit from a girl from out of state named Cassandra who was staying at a hotel, but who came over on one night and met you and Josh. You may or may not know that John has been carrying on a sort of "online romance" with this girl, who is 19, and they were meeting for the first time. She was quite smitten with your son for his humor, his candor, and his other good qualities.

On the last day she was there, John stayed in her hotel room, and they had intercourse, after which she left to continue her trip.

While this on it's [sic] own is unusual, if not abnormal, your son's later behavior is unsettling. After she had left, your son posted on his internet diary and several websites pages of information essentially revealing that he had no interest in Cassandra at all, and only wanted her to visit so he could have sex with her and then humiliate her for it afterwards. The "online romance" was simply an excuse for him to have sex and cause pain to another human being, an act for which he feels no remorse.

I cannot tell you how to parent your children, but if I were in your shoes, I would give serious thought to their mental stability.
