Being ex-military, I can vouch for that game being about as realistic as they come. Not in every little detail, but the general feel of being out there in the shit. It definitely adresses the negative points you have for FarCry2:
- AI: still stupid as individuals, but in real warfare that isn't very important, as combat usually takes place over hundreds of metres of distance.
You can either hit what you aim at, or you can't. What I'm saying is, the AI probably won't try to outflank you (unless they're equipped with experienced AI), but they're able to calculate ballistic trajectories just fine and cram boollets up your ass.
- One good hit will kill you. Of course, it may not (a grazing headshot isn't necessarily fatal). Also wounds affect how steady your aim is. A good leg shot renders you crawling like a worm. :p
- All weapons are different in that they have different ballistic properties.
There's no artificial inaccuracy like in other games, the gun will shoot exactly where it's aimed (of course there'll be some minor inherent inaccuracy like in real guns), then external influences will take effect - wind causing drift, distance causing elevation.
Of course it's unrealistic that all guns are sighted in correctly, some should have crooked sights, crooked barrels, whatever.
You can see your own body unlike most FPS gaems. Also you can't move your aim as fast as you can move the mouse, so no flicking around like you got Parkinson's or mercury poisoning.
FarCry2 looks fun, but the "realism" seems a bit uhh, weird. Stopping mid-fight to extract bullets with pliers? That is fucking silly, I would've preferred a medikit just topping up your health bar. But I guess it gives an insight to what pasty game developers think real warfare is like. It's certainly obvious the Flashpoint developers are ex-military. *oak pipe* |
