Your mission in the game, from the very beginning, is to get the ship up and running. It's your character's profession (engineer), as opposed to the computer chick or the security officer who are with you. They seem like the kind of things people would need to do to get a ship of that size up and running.

However, they are not (say) find the absurdly complicated way to unlock a door by shooting the right order of food items in a painting, determined by snippets of poetry posted around the room. Which is the kind of thing RE4 did at the drop of a hat, which did amount to little more than Fedex/fix it quests for the most part. And which, due to the plot and the gameplay, still did not make the game anything but excellent.

So I guess my point is that you can summarize what you will be doing for most of my DS the way you did. But I would call that missing the forest for the trees. The atmosphere is great, the cats jump out of the closets just fine, and walking on the mangled corpses of my enemies hasn't gotten old (the bodies are persistent in a way that you would expect them to be in an "aggressive" ecosystem like this one).
