I have no idea what you're talking about, unless you took cultivate plus Talisman making. All of what I grow I can use with the Apothecary skill.

They recently changed things, and I can no longer make gold essence (used for talisman making). Previously, I took gold dust, a certain kind of plant -- goldweed or something (now used to make potions more stable) -- and turned it into gold essence. I dunno how that works now. Can guys with the talisman skill make their own gold essence now?
