PROS: Liberating! I've done a lot of writing in conjunction with other components of a project I was producing, or as part of managing a project, but to only write and then drop out of the project seems like I'm cheating. Good luck with everything you guys, here's a 45K PDF. Now give me hundreds of dollars.
I named a flat rate price, pulled from guesswork, and so far my projected hours will translate into an awesome hourly wage.
It's liberating and validating to just start saying you're a writer now and have people trust you on that.

CONS:Unlike with graphics or web development I can't listen to Stern shows while I work. I even notice that if I'm listening to music that is too interesting, the writing really slows down.
It's boring. I'm still networked to the same boring corporate clients so the work will remain uninteresting for the foreseeable future. But it's an easier execution of the boring projects to which I am accustom.
I don't know if this project qualifies as "copy writing" or "technical writing", since it seems to be a little of both when I read the definitions of each. I hope my lack of understanding of my own job isn't exposed later on.
