| The whole movie actually seems more of a half spy mystery and half comedy. The usual subtle Coen bruddas comedy is even more subtle in this because it's all character based YES HAND TO CHIN FINE OAK PIPE ETC. Basically the movie is more of a quiet funny, except for some of the stuff you saw in the trailer, when they try to blackmail John Malkovich for his secret shit. Also some of the crazier developments later in the movie, and just how ridiculous the plan gets until the end. Also there are a couple really violent brutal scenes that are sort of funny and gross.
The trailers beforehand were like 100% THE MOST INSPIRATIONAL MOVIE YOU WILL SEE ALL YEAR shit like Milk starring Sean Penn as a gay sensitive caring whoever who is trying to fight for justice in dystopic anti-gay 1970s San Fransisco(????????) and GIVING PEOPLE HOPE (BECAUSE THE PEOPLE NEED HOPE) fade to white. The other was Robert Downey Jr. as a journalist who right at the beginning of the trailer takes a massive spill off his bike while drunk biking and his face gets all scratched up. I immediately thought this would be a great movie about a crazy Robert Downey Jr. journalist who goes around hammered and just spewing great one liners, until they suddenly reveal (like some horror movie scare) that this is really the story of how he helps a schizophrenic homeless Jamie Foxx learn to play the cello or something. I THINK I'LL PASS.......... A STONE (as Robert Downey Jr. would say in the imaginary movie of his that I would rather see). Or as in the MST3K episode I ripped that off of, Fugitive Alien 2 I think. |
