Well, you can hit things with your gun, which makes the whole thing way better. It also means that pistols and shotguns can actually be useful (when you're close enough to what you're shooting). So yeah, options.
The territory thing is a little janky, but I suppose that shouldn't suprise anyone. I've had allies take a position but not realize they've taken it which seems to keep people from trying to expand at all. It seems like they clear this up by randomly having enemies take territory over, so I guess they knew it was a problem. When it works it's kind of cool, and I think you can eventually have friendly stores in every sector, which definitely seems good.
The main new drawback is that your autosaves corrupt all the time. Since moving between sectors requires autosaving and then reading that save you basically need to quicksave any time you're planning a transition.
I really, really, really wanted to like STALKER, but standing across a field from a group of buys shooting short bursts for 5 minutes until I whittled them down gets old really fast. This improves on that aspect of things a lot, so I may be sold. I guess we'll see how long I can put up with the crashes. |
