Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Get the demo, play it, then go buy the full copy an hour later because, seriously, this game is fucking great.

Of course, I don't know if the demo is actually a good representation of the greatness of the final game because I never managed to play it. I just assume it is, given how awesome the final product turned out. See, compounding Doom 3's many crimes against fun is the fact that it refused to allow me to actually play the demo after I installed it. I guess Doom 3 didn't really like when I tried to play other games while it was installed on my hard drive. Luckily, I fixed the problem by uninstalling the fuck out of Doom 3 and getting on to playing much, much better games.

Seriously, Rome:Total War is one of the best strategy games I've ever played. Deep, rewarding gameplay with massive, full 3-D, real-time combat, unit formations that are intuitive and essential, generals and characters that evolve and grow based on your decisions during the game, solid diplomacy options, crazy replay value with all the different factions, and on and on. There's a bunch of mods of various quality already popping up, too - the Rome: Total Realism seems pretty popular among those who feel the need to manage even more stuff during the game. Really, the only stumbling blocks are the overpowered "Bribe" ability of your (and the enemy's) diplomats, and the fact that you can only auto-resolve naval warfare - depriving you of a stunning, come-from-behind victory at sea that you can brag to your friends about while they roll their eyes at your inane tales of imaginary computer simulated history. Not that I've ever bragged about Amelius Varro's amazing defeat of nearly one-third of the Gallic forces during the battle of Mediolanum in 225 BC, mind you. No sir.

Pros of Rome: Total War: Pretty much everything.

Cons of Rome: Total War: Building a giant stack of mighty soldiers, only to see them bribed away by some namby-pamby diplomat. However, you can just build lots of assassins and murder pretty much any diplomat you see with only minor reprocussions - this has the added bonus of giving your faction leader the cool nickname: "the Killer". Also, if you're even remotely anal-retentive, managing a full campaign of this game will devour your precious free time like sweet, sweet candy. I mean, 500+ turns, with 3-4 battles to fight in almost every turn? The mind boggles.
