Black Snake Moan is like a portrait of clowns crying after the stage lights go down, except the "clowns" in this case are a nymphomaniac and a blues man. If I had to compare it to another film, it would be Monster's Ball, as both are about the healing power of interracial love, only Moan is hopeful where Ball is disgusting. I think it would make a great double-feature with 2003's Monster - the theme could be "the ups and downs of adopting Christina Ricci as your surrogate daughter." (Either that, or "sluts.") |
