Reseating my ram and blindly swapping power cables seems to fix it, and the problem comes back when I restart. I went into this whole thing with two pretty simple goals 1. Add a PCI USB card 2. Put my SATA drive on SATA0 rather than SATA1. The USB thing was because I needed more ports and I thought if I put my ipod and tungsten cradles on that they wouldn't make the boot hang (which they have been) and the SATA thing is because well, I wanted it to be on zero. Apparently I'd have to upgrade my PSU to jam another PCI card on my board so nuts to that, and my computer just cannot deal with SATA0. If anyone has an answer that's great, but I'm at the point of declaring PFM, ordering a new mobo and not restarting until it comes.
I wanted a mobo and a processor, since I figure I might as well make this an upgrade. I was mainly looking for recommendations and a decent place to order. I was just going to scour newegg and pick something out, though if you guys have any ideas I'd appreciate it. Back in 2002ish this system was mid-range and cost 800 bucks, and it's still running stuff pretty well. So I'd like to keep that trend intact unless I can get something seriously better for not much more cash. Newegg I still think would be choice as a place to buy it since I could get another hard drive and decide on which RAID I want and get a PSU. |
