Maybe 2 years ago? Wait, it was... when I had surgery... so it was 1999. 5 years ago. Time flies after you're out of school.
I guess I don't see these things as a whole, so much as I see them as the sum of their aggregate good scenes and overall mood. The garbled transmissions and the regular downtown building that you can't leave because the homeless people have become zombies, that stuff really stuck with me. For some reason the fact that it was made on the cheap made it feel very familiar and real to me. Very believable. Maybe that's crazy, I don't know. There's certainly a lot of it that is absurd... but parts of it feel like they could have been a real-life experience in a way that very few horror movies have for me. Hard to explain. That aspect of it gives it a lot of resonance for me. I can't imagine being a space marine and I've never been a Catholic priest, but I have been a grad student in a busted-ass downtown building and for some reason the details in PoD add up to teh scrarie for me. YMMV I guess. |
