I enjoyed it for a while, before I went from utterly engrossed to absolutely sick of it in a five minute span. Most of the individual things you do (fight monsters, upgrade your weapons, upgrade your robot, hell even the golf minigame is pretty good) are fun, but they're arranged in the most frustrating, time-wasting way possible. Take the golf game, for instance. You play it after you clear a level, but you only have one shot to make it under the required number of strokes. Fail and now you''ve got to leave, come back, and clear the whole level again. You earn medals for clearing levels under specific sets of circumstances, which you trade in for better items. Unfortunately, half the levels in a given dungeon area have medal requirements that are essentially impossible to beat at the time you come across the level, which means you've got to come back to dungeons you'd beaten days ago and which feature now totally underpowered monsters and waste time chucking bombs at them to earn the "beat without using any weapons" medal, or something. So then to "save time" you try to beat the other levels under the medal requirements the first time through, but you slip and accidentally hit "swing wrench" button on the "beat using only left hand weapons" level, so now you've immediately got to go back and play the same damn board again. If you can bring yourself to just plow through the game and not deal with any of the optional time-wasting shit, you'll probably enjoy it more.

Also, the story (what I saw of it) is ridiculously bad. I mean, yeah, that's expected, but it feels like they're just totally going through the motions to get all the obligatory cliches out of the way. And the main character (voiced by whoever played the geeky younger brother on Mission Hill) is the gayest ever. He spends the whole game whining about his lost mother in that horrible nerd voice that was kind of funny on Mission Hill when you were supposed to deride it, but simply unbearable now that it's being presented "straight".
Wow. This game has nearly everything I hate about games in it. Thanks for the warning.

In its defense, you don't have to do anything he mentions in the first paragraph and cutscenes are skippable.
