Awesome. The ad is meant to be a phat Tarantino-esque homage and a possible bridge between our cultures (for love of basketball, of all things), and we end up just insulting them like the lumbering white devils they knew us to be.
Nike trying to bridge the gap between cultures is like seeing your redheaded, retarded and 12-year-old stepcousin attempt to ask out the girl at the record store on your behalf. Hey, thanks Nike. You still matter! The best scenario that can result from your unrestrained diplomatic meddling is partial rather than worldwide nuclear annihilation. I wouldn't let anyone involved with Nike use their own judgment to make me a plate from the Mongolian Barbecue, much less fix decades of troublesome delegations with fucking China.
I also love how Nike (and Gatorade, too) is firmly determined to show us circumstances where being able to dunk a basketball or hit a baseball is quite useful. Alien invasion? Thank Christ that Derek Jeter and his Intangibles are there to bat grenades at the invading horde. Hideous oncoming swarm of bees? Mrs -- I mean Mr -- Garciaparra -- I mean Hamm -- is there to bicycle kick the human race to safety! As always, China has to ban something because it offends on a very deep, complete and spiritual level their godless anachronation. At the risk of spontaneously cobbling together an Onion headline, I'd one day like to see China ban a bad soccer game or Nike ad not because it depicts content deeply offensive to their country, but instead because it sucked.
