This is why Haslett is losing. He refuses to play the fucking people he drafted. The only other team that I can think of that got less out of their drafts recently is the Dolphins, and they are going 2-14 this season. Maybe the guys taken suck, maybe it's not Haslett at fault... hey, fantastic. But HE is ultimately responsible for taking them, because his GM can do nothing but count ticket receipts and yell at the fans, even though they've sold out the Dome for four straight years to watch intolerably awful football.
I watch the Saints and I think to myself: here's a team with terrible coaching. Aaron Brooks doesn't have Downs Syndrome. But he's throwing the stupidest heave ho interceptions I've seen all year. And he's doing it every week. That's just one example . . . the WRs and the QB don't seem to be on the same page half the time, the defense seems to get confused about who they're covering . . . What happened here? Did Haslett just stop giving a shit?
When he comes out and says "Bad, bad football", it kills me because it sounds like he's blaming his players. It's a well-known fact that Mike Martz is stupid, but I'll give him one thing: he always blames himself. When his kicker went down last year, forcing the Rams to go for 2 on every TD because they didn't have a back-up on the roster, he literally said "What can I say? I'm stupid." Fuck blaming anyone else. Jim Haslett wasn't thanking anyone else when he took his contract extension after getting the Saints to the playoffs a few years ago, but I guess he'll imply his players are dumb now that they're losing with the regularity they used to.
Jim: Watch Dennis Erickson's press conferences. Notice the use of passive tenses and plural possessive pronouns. Repeat after me: "We wanted to do some things that couldn't get done on the field."
Well, I'll tell you what, in Jimmy Haslett's defense that Jonathan Sullivan is one heckuva dumb guy.
Johnathan Sullivan's replica jersey is going for $64.99 at the Saints Official Merchandising store. As possibly the biggest draft bust in the history of the NFC I don't know how they're keeping it in stock. Only $65? Plus shipping? You can't put a price tag on that kind of infamy.
