...Because Rivers won't see a down this year and Eli of Eli's Home Page fame is playing poorly on a bad team that only won the games they did because their ex-military coach could single handedly win four games all by himself with the '80 Saints because he's so goddamn angry and unpleasant to be around at all times.

I don't know why everyone is proclaiming that the worst thing that could ever happen to the Chargers would be franchising Brees. Quarterbacking is sort of a zero sum game: if I have three and you have none then that's better for me and you can't have mine. (Except that's hardly the case and you can have mine when I stupidly decide not to pay insurance for the position and re-sign my backup.) The Chargers haven't had -- Stan Humphries's fieldburp aside -- a guy out there that was actually great since Fouts. They will have two first round picks next year, but theirs won't be that expensive because they will be one of the last teams drafting. They could be a special team if they keep both of their QBs in so much as that one injury to that position won't cripple them.
