But there are so many problems with EVE that it's just not worth it to most people.

The learning curve is ridiculous, 60% of the mechanics are never explained in game.

All NPC content is ridiculously tedious, and the tutorial gives the impression to new people that doing missions, THE most tedious out all the tedious content, is the best way to go.

Mining is a boring and complete waste of time to the point that the only people who do it are chinese gold farmers and macro scripts.

You're staring at black 98% of the time. All those promo videos of beautiful lasers and explosions are a complete lie; nobody ever sees that in-game. All combat is fought at the max zoomed out level where everything is an icon because otherwise everything runs at 1 fps. For all practical purposes it might as well be a text-based game. If nothing else WoW is very pretty to look at and if there's anything Blizzard can do well it's making colorful attractive environments that run well on most computers.
