In class today, we worked on the difference between faire du/de la and jouer au/à la. All of the examples we read in the book that referred to playing videogames spoke of jouer à la Play Station specifically. There wasn't even a mention of the generic jouer les jeux video. Play Station, Play Station, Play Station.
Later, when the teacher asked me ««Christopher, jouez-vous la Play Station?»», I decided that I was going to play smart. ««Je suis americain,»» I replied. ««Je joue le Xbox trois cent soixante.»»
She frowned and looked at me as if I had insulted the dignity of the French nation itself. ««Le Xbox? Quel est le Xbox?»»
As usual, pretending as if I can speak French has led me smack dab into a conversation that I really do not want to have, in English or in French. ««Il n'est rein. Oui, je joue la Play Station.»»
She smiled. ««C'est bon.»» |
