I'm thinking that a new 19" LCD with VGA and component is probably the same price as the converter.
I had no idea they did that these days. That's brilliant. The only LCD screen I have ever used is the one I was given at work. I was issued a CRT when I first started, but as people have left for other positions (and as we have never, ever hired anyone to replace the people who left) I have upgraded both the location of my desk and my video output device several times. I currently sit at a wallless and privacy-free desk next to a window, and I have two LCD monitors without component video ports. It's like cashing your paycheck and going around town flashing the money clip at people. It seems like I am a success, but those in the know (in these examples that would be people with real LCD monitors and people with direct deposit) realize the ugly truth. Thank you, THE!

The thing was shelved the moment I replaced the old CRT with a Dell flat panel with an S-Video input built-in. Lots of other flat panels have component inputs, which would probably be much easier on the eyes. Like Happiness Engine mentioned above, that would probably be your best bet if you were looking for a new monitor anyway. (Viewsonic's asking price for their fancier breakout boxes was about what you'd pay for an entire LCD with those same inputs built in today.)
This sounds like the way to go - thanks. I was going to shove a CRT into my MAME cabinet, finally, this weekend anyway, so I might as well replace it with something with that.
(Irrelevant: actually, I do have a PlayStation 2 VGA cable, but it doesn't work with any actual videogames. It was only packaged with Sony's PS2 Linux kit, plus it only worked with sync-on-green monitors -- all three still currently in existence. If you run across the cable, don't bother with it.)
Haha, a sync-on-green sighting! That sort of simultaneously sums up exactly why Linux isn't on the majority of desktops in this country, and why Sony's next console went completely unsold for a year. What was the input device they made you use, the Koala Pad? I have no idea where you'd even begin to look for a sync-on-green display, and I live in a home where the monitor in the Vectrex is the third-youngest out of the 12 around here.
