Although, I remember Crystalis being a good game.
EVEN THOUGH it had similar bullshit puzzles like this. It didn't have an overworld separated by random encounters though, it was more Zelday, but with better controls where you could walk diagonally and the control was a little sharper. There was leveling up and shit, and WAY more combat because as I remember you were supposed to spend hours grinding in a couple zones just to level yourself up so you wouldn't get asshammered through the game.
Anyway there's one pyramid near the end that's so giant and mazelike that they actually do not have maps for it on gamefaqs, or possibly anywhere. You could get lost in it for hours, and the only thing you get is a ring that lets you fuckin do something kind of powerful, but since it was the end of the game you wouldn't really need it. You could of course just skip it entirely, and you were way more likely to find yourself at the beginning of the maze again than the final treasure chest.
Boy I loved Crystalis back then. That was one of my first vidyan gaem grindan moments where I would be in that one swamp where they want you to wear the gas mask while running around killing enemies over and over again, and then I'd put in the tape of NWA's 100 Miles and Runnin and flip it over, over and over again as I played.
Now I want to play Crystalis again. |
