The D2D version has no starforce, and I've never had a problem reinstalling it on any of the two computers I've played it on. Apparently, here's how it works
Space Rangers 2 will be made for digital distribution through direct2drive. They will have copyright protection that allows the user to re-install the game up to 3 times (per license). Direct2drive also has customer support always availible. They have a GREAT customer support service. Space rangers 2 can be downloaded and burned to a DVD for safe keeping. A CD will not hold this game. This, like i stated above, can be re-installed up to 3 times with that one license file. This file will be added to the computers registry and it can not be copied or installed on another machine. If the back up disk made is used on another machine, the game will install but it will be the trial version. after the trial period, one would have to purchase a full license in which is described above.
Also direct2drive uses a download manager. So if your having internet troubles 1/2 through the download, you can restart the computer or the internet connection and still have that 50% done. This makes the download procedure eaiser for the non-experienced end-user.
I can't recommend the (non starforce) version of this game enough. Apparently, the versions on shelves have been starforce free for a while now, but I'd still double check anything in the bargain bin.
The game is definitely worth it, and that's even though I completely ignored most of the text adventures and all of the RTS stuff. I'm curious what you guys think of it since I play comparatively few games like this. |
