The workstation. by Zsenitan 02/27/2008, 10:19pm PST
One of our office managers at the Department of Unemployment is stupid.

Day 1: new test cubicle arrives at office, unassembled. Zseni has something to do with this, so office manager asks Zseni "buh what should I do with this duh?"

Zseni emails the office manager:

"Feel like trying your hand at setting it up? Otherwise I’ll be coming over probably late tonight in order to do so. Either way, please pick a place where it can be set up and “tested” without getting in anyone’s way – maybe in the way back of the unused space.

Thanks!

- Zseni Unemployed"

Office manager writes back:

"We will give it a try..."

He always says "we" when responsibility is getting handed out. When work gets done, it's "I" even though he doesn't do anything. Ever.

6 hours later, Zseni emails office manager:

"Did you guys have time to manage this today? I’m just asking so I’ll know whether to make time for setup this evening or whether I can just have the VP come over and check out the cubicle. Let me know, thanks!

Office manager:

"We did not get to this today. We will start tomorrow morning. I do not feel it is necessary for you to attempt set up this evening. "

Of all the people in the department, I am the last person he wants anywhere near his office. So that's why he said it like that.

Day 2.

It's morning! Time for some unemployment coffee and a round of status reports. Zseni writes to office manager:

"How is the workstation setup going? Just checking in because the VP is eager to see it."

The office manager writes back:

"The new workstation requires tools that we do not have here to complete the setup. I have the necessary tools at home that I will bring in tomorrow. From what we see, we are missing components (the “pedestal” and support leg) to complete the project.

There are many small parts and the instructions are not very clear. Once we get it more assembled, it may make more sense.

I do have a couple of questions. It appears from my crude measurements that we will be able to add one work space. However, it seems like we will have three left handed and three right handed orientations. This may not work. The actual workspace appears to be less than what we have currently. I am not sure of the actual design expectations. Maybe we can talk about them if you have a clear understanding of what we may be transitioning to."

When the office manager sent this email, he cc'ed the VP.

I have sent this to everyone I could think of. I think it's the funniest thing that has ever happened to me at any job, ever.

The VP's office is just down the hall from my unemployment chamber. I heard him laughing over this, and then he asked the director of HR to come over to his office. But then they closed the door and I didn't hear anything else.

Day 3: Zseni's boss sends Zseni an email: "build that cubicle, would you?" Zseni builds the cubicle. It takes about forty minutes. The "missing pieces" were in the packaging. The "special tools" were apparently a phillips head screwdriver and a vagina.
