Once you get past the escort mission, which is horrible and vexes me to no end, you get into some really great missions. The best are the ones where you're unarmed and need to survive for 46 seconds, but instead you restart, restart, and restart, and run out your demo timer trying to get the most perfect disarm move by nailing the guy with your chassis. In the "SOLO" storyline getting sold into slavery is probably the high point of everything, which is just odd.
A second story line called "GRIM" is unlocked after the first non-tutorial Solo mission, I hadn't tried it previously because I thought it was just a higher difficulty. I can't really blame my poor AI friend for not being able to use the hammer against the bees, since it is probably the hardest thing in the game. The Grim mode starts you with a hammer, and against a swarm of bees/worms, most of the bees are just the size of your hammer so you really need to have your shit down for this, which is stupid. They're bees, and when you're using a hammer they probably represent the most difficult the game can possibly be.
Overall if they just let you pick a fucking weapon from the start the game would probably be far less of a pain in the ass. The lack of a sword in the Grim storyline makes it unplayable. (you can try, smartass) I can't imagine doing it without running away all the time and hoping the mission is on an invisible timer. The Solo storyline seems to consist of gladiatorial shit which is probably where this game really shines. (even if the dev team doesn't see that) The demo limit for a game in beta is baffling, but at least they don't seem to be charging people for it yet. |
