I play at 1024x768 with most settings maxed (the rest one notch from maxed), and according to my screenshots directory I get 60fps minimum (crowds), 120-180fps typical (alone or with one enemy).

TF2 is pretty easy on video cards; if that's your focus there's no need to spend a lot on a fancy one.

I suspect the card's performance on future games will be decided by how much they copy TF2's "less is more" aesthetic and whether you're willing to play with some stuff turned off.
