Thousands of ratio Nazis awake to a grey dawn. "My - my precious ratio - gone? It can't BE!" Pouring last night's cold tea into a pink cup, they stand at their windows, staring blankly, curtains brushing their spotty foreheads as one of their many Soundtracks Of Leni Riefenstahl downloads plays in the background: "Taps" for the filesharing bullies.
Pompous admins, including the motherfucker who banned me for talking, will have to go back to buying things that make them look cool again. Their unwarranted self-importance was once like dancing: hard work, but a beautiful part of who they are! Now it's like cocaine: expensive and necessary. In pairs they shuffle to TBP, registering for usernames and planning, like so much David Bowie and Iggy Pop, to go clean in a new town.
Worst of all is the new kid, the one who just got his ratio over 1.0 for the first time. He was just about to live the dream! He had everything going for him! A smart, ambitious, torrent-hopping young guy who had just figured out that you don't download what you like, for god's sake. You download what other people want. He was gonna climb straight to the top! And now he's saddled with terabytes of Nickleback albums and Dave Matthews Band concert bootlegs. Too callow to be sad for the passing of a once-mighty empire, he grits his teeth, annoyed, and begins deleting the hundreds of useless songs that made their way onto his hard drive. All that work - for nothing. |
