Now I think unlocking the beta costs 22 dollars, these chuckleheads (for two years) have had the idea to increase the beta unlock price as they come closer and closer to their full game which will cost 29 dollars. However, a shitload of nodding pansies robbed them of whatever ambition birthed the original combat engine, they've added a thing or two, but ultimately you're looking at a game that's shallow compared to Dope Wars. I know you've already gotten me wrong, though I really do enjoy the game, and I played the fucking hell out of it back in 2005. It just never left version .340 or whatever I bought it at, which is a pretty big fucking flaw.
How much of a fucking idiot do you have to be to give your 2007 indie spotlight to a game that's been in a two year beta? What's he even talking about anyway, what is this comparison to Oblivion? Mount and Blade's combat is totally zone based, and all things that don't rely on a horse or ranged weapon are horrible. Past the combat it's a map, vendors, items, and no story or real quests. You can "escort/gather/courier/capture things", however the idea that this game even features enough quests to add up to a single one of Oblivion's is just mind boggling. If you want a good combat engine that could have been ported to The Elder Scrolls series, I think that Dark Messiah is the pretty obvious candidate, Mount and Blade's combat only works in Mount and Blade.
If Mount and Blade was ever developed beyond a really fun combat engine there'd be an argument for it. If it was still ten bucks, there'd be an argument for it. It won't be and won't ever be either of those things. It's fun, but so are a slew of other varied indie games that actually had some work done on them since 2005. |
