STAGE 1 COMPLETE
STAGE 2 (ACTUAL GAME DEVELOPMENT): ON INDEFINITE HOLD
I'm all up into a text game until at least February, but after that I do want to do a game where people are moving on the screen and the fighting is in real-time. I was thinking an Asteroids clone to get started, but a side scroller works, too. I bought a game development suite (or whatever the term is) called "Blitz3D" a few months ago and was able to modify their included version of Tempest and understand what was going on and how things worked. There are a lot of example games for side-scrollers. I know it's not as "pure" as developing an engine from scratch, but I do real programming at work, I'm all about the easiest path in my free time.
If Fussbett had the time and inclination, over the next few months, to create some sprites I'd totally be into putting together a little something. But I wouldn't be able to jump on it full time until 2008. Actually, with four player co-op, I presume you mean people connect and play over the Internet. Let me see if this Blitz package EVEN supports it.
