That explains a lot. One, you have a guy so willing to rationalize the army's mistakes and problems that he takes what is primarily a light gun issue and he turns it into a complex simulation of the real world. Two, he comes up with an even shittier version of the same sim, which completely ignores its training purpose or ground rules.
We've used what I can only assume is the same humvee simulator, except in a multiple humvee environment simulating convoys and applying immediate action drills. My vehicle got killed by an exploding camel. :( But it still beats the real thing, and by that I mean training in humvees for real, which is boring as hell.

In WWII, I read a calculation that it took 10,000 rounds fired to produce a casualty (or maybe a KIA). In Vietnam, with everyone carrying full autos, it was much higher, altho I forget the figure.
Figure that , assuming a sight radius of 24", and a vital area 10" in diameter, at 100 yards the sights must be aligned to within 1/30 inch (either way) to get a hit, and at 200 yards to within 1/60 inch. Try that while the heart is pounding, hands may be shaking, bullets are coming back, the rifle is recoiling in full auto and, in this case, the vehicle is bouncing.
Oh, that is fucking rich. Using ammunition expenditure stats and 18th century sayings to (once again) explain away why the army's lightgun is insufficiently responsive. If only they'd used a wii controller instead of whatever million dollar device they are using, we could have been spared this entire line of bullshit. |
