According to GameFAQs, the SCAR in Vegas is the SCAR-Heavy, which is chambered in .308 Winchester. Given the powerful round, short barrel and relatively light weight, common sense tells you it should be less accurate at range and less controllable in full auto than the larger, heavier G3. The SCAR-Light (in .223 Remington), on the other hand, is theoretically superior in every way to the CAR-15 and derivatives (ie the M-4 carbine, a shortened M-16 and the previous rifle of choice for SOCOM).

Vegas is set in the near future, where - in Tom Clancy's perfect world - the M-16 and M-4 are already being phased out in favour of the M-8. In the real world, controversy over "non-competitive procurement of the XM-8 system" from Heckler & Koch USA resulted in the entire program being suspended indefinitely.

The Ruger AC556F is a favourite of American SWAT teams precisely because the wood construction makes it look less alarming (to suspects, bystanders and especially the media) than the typical matte black assault rifle. With the 30-round banana magazine replaced by a 10- or 20-round straight magazine, it looks just like any farmer's varmint-carbine.

The .223 Galil doesn't even have any wooden pieces. I just used an old photo of the .308 Galil because I think it looks sexier.




Note the thicker magazine (necessary to accomodate the longer .308 round) on the old Galil, similar to the one on the SCAR-H, and the NATO-standard STANAG magazine on the newer Galil - the same mag the M-16 takes.
