So far all the default weapons are very good, but I get the feeling that the support and assault rifles could be upgraded. I haven't played the sniper scout kit much (altho it's clearly an improvement over the previous kits in the whole series) so maybe I should keep spending unlocks on the other kits for now.
Also: stamina. Supposedly the unlocks don't help with that much, but I already got the first stam unlock because every little bit helps.
It's a superb investment as you'll be racking up tons of extra points from resurrections. Should be the first unlock.
Other good early ones:
Frag grenades, both stamina upgrades (they help a lot). C4. Squad leader beacon. Claymores.
Good long term unlocks to work up to:
Motion mines- These make an engineer twice as deadly against vehicles.
Heartbeat sensor- It's a wall hack.
Infantry sonar- Mini UAV
Assault rockets- The best unlock weapon in the game. You will never use anything but defib and rockets with the assault class.
Unlocks not worth it:
Stealth camo- Doesn't fool anyone.
All unlocks above the guns except for the support infantry sonar.
Assault shotgun- Weaker than a knife in close quarters. Takes up rocket and defib space.
The entire left hand engineer column
Sentry gun- It was already pretty weak, then they weakened it even more with the last patch.
Smoke grenades- They really need to buff these. Creates 2 seconds of smoke in a tiny area, plus you only get two of them. I've never seen it make a difference. Plus it's an assault item that isn't rockets or the defib.
Guns:
...Pilum?- I used to be in love with this. I'm not no sure anymore. Does a little more damage against vehicles and travels faster, but you can't guide it and have no chance of hitting a moving vehicle at medium to long range. Plus you have to spend 3 unlocks on TOTAL SHIT to work your way up to it.
Voss- Cheap fucking AWP WHORE voss. The most ridiculously effective gun in the game. Lose to it at any range with any gun. Feel cheap when you win with it. Lots of wonder why this hasn't been toned down yet.
Ganz heavy machinegun- Total shit
Support shotgun- Ehh.......It CAN be useful, but only at close range. Even then you don't really get that much more an advantage over other guns (especially the voss) that can also shoot at long range.
Zellar sniper rifle- Only 3 bullets per clip, but does 90-100% dagame per non head shot. The biggest drawback to it is the scope being colored bright orange and making it a bitch to see anything. If you're confident with your head shot aim, stick to the default rifle with the bigger clip.
Recon assault rifle- If you REALLY want an automatic rifle for the recon guy. Accurate at long range, shitty at medium and close up.
Baur- It's decent at long range, but not so much more than the other assault choices that it's worth it for its small clip size. |
