Complexe Amigo.

They have a pretty big outdoor track; we did just the short part of it and it was still about 1km/lap. It's situated on a gentle slope, with parallel straights running up and down. At the bottom of the slope is a very soft chicayne then a hairpin. The top is a double hairpin followed by a long full-throttle sweeper. The track is bumpy with a couple of asphalt-concrete transitions: these are a traction nightmare for a machine with solid tries and no suspension.

Past leisure rentals have taught me you don't want the gear in too good a condition, because (a) that level of maintenance costs and you're paying plus (b) the proprietor will be a nitty, browbeating fag. At Complexe Amigo, kart and track maintenance were just right. I had minimal brakes and was able to snap a wheel off fairly easily, yet my kart ran fine for 95% of the race and all the others finished. There were stray tires sitting in the apexes of key turns, and some sections of railtie guardrail missing, but no potholes or lethal hazards.

There were corner workers on two of the corners but everywhere else you could bump with impunity. There is a rubber bump guard all around the kart -- no worries about getting wheels tangled. I was having a lot of fun attempting PIT maneuvers against the other drivers.

50 minutes was plenty of time and I was surprised to find myself getting tired near the end. Bring gloves! There is a lot of steering wheel feedback and some people got blisters on their thumbs.

There is also a dark underbelly to the powered amusement industry, its name is "loaner helmets." I wanted to bring my own but there would be girls there and I didn't want to appear uptight. I was pleasantly surprised, then, to find the helmets all pretty new, with working visors and DOT certification and not at all stinky and disgusting.
