The other complaint sounds interesting, but I don't understand. Won't the guys nuking your Strategic Point also just kill your Helper fag when he goes to build the listening post? Maybe you should explain this again real slow for me.
The instant you tell a worker to build a listening post it appears on the point at like 25% health and doesn't start increasing until the worker arrives (just like every other building you order bulit). You could tell a worker across the map to build a listening post being "decaptured" and it would appear there, at which point you just cancel it.
Exactly. Since it's very hard to do some 250 points of damage in the .5 seconds between the initial build order and the cancel (except the late, late game), a good player can effectively hold on to his captured points without too much trouble. The only real way to beat this is to overwhelm the player with attacks on several points, and even then, the 30 second decap time means that only one point will probably get decaptured.

But OMFG SEER COUNCIL SO IMBALANCED BECAUSE I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF ATTACKING THEM HAND TO HAND ARRRRGGG WTF WTF FIX THIS AND NOTHING ELSE!
Seer council never was that hard to beat. A single dread, or good micro for normal units, could pretty much always take care of the problem. The only really big Eldar issue that actually got fixed was the 3 plasma grenades for the price of one problem, which could get insane when 4 or 5 squads equipped with them hit you at once.

-Make orks not suck
Their whole strength in numbers motif never materializes. It doesn't matter if their squad sizes are double that of the other races' because ork population cap counts individual orks, not squads. Even then you end up with nearly the same max as other races; a full space marine army is 80 marines, a full ork army 90 orks.
I don't think Relic paid attention to the Ork late game for a fairly specific reason: as a race, they're basically meant to rush, and rush some more. If you're at the point where a marine player can tech up all the way and field a full army... you deserve to lose (at least that's Relic's opinion). See "Problems that weren't there before, but now are"

-Eldar turret exploit
There are a few "critical points" scattered around maps. If you capture over half of them a six minute countdown starts. If you still hold more than half of them when the timer reaches zero then you win. You also can't fortify critical points with listening posts and turrets as to avoid games from turning into simply who can get there first and build a million turrets and turtling their way to victory. The only problem is Eldar fuck this up by being able to build turrets pretty much anywhere (off of gateways). One map is just one critical point in the center. Every single game there is just getting an Eldar player to the middle and building nothing but turrets. You lose.
Turrets never seem that good to me, even when Eldar use them. There are plenty of ways to kill them (Hero special attacks, artillery, artillery, artillery, heavy vehicles), and they take a shitload of time to set up (if an Eldar player is crit point turret rushing, then your normal rush squads should be able to take him out).
-Space marines late game
Are ungodly good. They can orbital drop almost half of their army anywhere on the map with hardly any restriction. Include your commander in that drop and you can instantly level half their base with an orbital bombardment. Or just save that orbital bombardment to singlehandedly turn the tide of the battle of your choice. There's not much you can do to save your base against a marine player who knows what he's doing.
They don't get the flashy giant demon unit that other sides get, but I'd take being able to level bases on a whim over a giant elephant any day.
SM are the strongest in the late game, but not necessarily because of Orbital Bombardments. If you're playing against SM, it's general sense to start turreting like crazy inside your base once you know your enemy has orbital capabilities, and also build a second HQ building, just to be sure. The major SM strength is assault terminators and Predator tanks. A few of either tend to turn the tide of pretty much any battle.
Other shit that needs to be fixed, but wasn't:
-Problems with broken squads under certain conditions, where if a squad "broke" (aka, lost a significant portion of its morale), even when it got morale back it wouldn't actually come out of the "broken" status. Aka, half your troops would have 10% accuracy for most of the game, because they got fucked up once.
Problems that weren't there before, but now are:
-The Ork "horde bonus" doesn't always kick in anymore. Ork units are supposed to get a major morale boost when the horde is over 50 units. This generally worked in 1.0/1.01. Now it doesn't (you need to pop units in and out of buildings to get it to activate). |
