Compared to the great ratings Yakuza got, I feel like some disgruntled vet or jilted romantic, except those people eventually let it go. I'm slowly trying to recover up to being able to purchase Okami without breaking into a nervous sweat and screaming at the clerk.
Yakuza is definitely worth a play, and Haruka does totally throw the game off. The combat will often get annoying, and due to getting upgrades as you level you only get a wide enough array of moves to be consistently awesome only at the very end of the game. It's best viewed as an RPG but gets very combat heavy towards the end, and the 'fat guy', and 'guy who sweeps' really pissed me off. As brutal as the combat is it seems like boxing games still are the only things modeling face damage, and that would have really helped this game. I don't know if the sequel is supposed to make it, but a little blood and some after game content would have made this so much better.
They do have a "free play" mode where you start with everything unlocked at level 1, which is totally pointless. |
