Ray: tinypic.com, a Photobucket Video and Photo Sharing company, has volunteered to broker the transaction Ray: they used to be just tinypic.com period, a sharing service for small pictures, but were acquired and debased because they made Photobucket et. al. look like dogshit K0NY: ok, and what's a picture supposed to tell me? Ray: you were complaining that you didn't even know who I was; now you know something more than you DID, and we have something in common -- we've both seen my desktop. We could talk about it if you like, or move on to MY question since I've been so patient with yours Ray: do you perceive your banning as manifestation of a systemic flaw? Or freaky, anomalous one-off? K0NY: okay, and your question about some "troll-banning policy I'm not aware of K0NY: sorry, didn't close the quotes there K0NY: anyway, I'm not aware of such a policy K0NY: nor do I consider myself a troll K0NY: I think my banning on qt3 was an easy fix to a difficult situation Ray: no one's arguing that. The question is whether repeated application of selfsame easy fix can produce a worthwhile result? Or, if it can't, does that imply the whole system is rotten to the core and destined to fail? K0NY: well, I liken QT3 to a cage full of excitable monkeys K0NY: when someone new comes around, they start flinging poo K0NY: so the easy way to get them to stop is to remove that new stimulus Ray: so you just assumed the flinging would eventually stop K0NY: well, I assumed even monkeys eventually would get tired of flinging poo Ray: and you set out to discover how long that would take K0NY: no K0NY: I set out to have interesting discussions with people who like video games Ray: have you told your wife about the banning yet K0NY: what does my wife have to do with anything? Ray: well, we're discussing games and whether a forum is one K0NY: I think it can be, for those who want to use it as such Ray: whereas the qt3 philosophy is that it cannot be a game, that the forum's only value is for friction-free conversation K0NY: I disagree K0NY: I think the qt3 philosophy is all friction all the time Ray: and you found that level of friction too high? K0NY: well, no K0NY: I found that the friction was misdirected Ray: at you K0NY: no, I mean in general K0NY: people seemed too obsessed with finding the flaw in a post rather than taking it into consideration K0NY: I think the qt3 groupthink puts the priority on grammar then source then intention and then maybe if they get that far, actual content Ray: did you feel that your grammar improved during your time at QT3? K0NY: no K0NY: I feel that focussing your attention to what's wrong with a post or the person who writes it, misses the point of what's written Ray: ok, you're saying that many of the replies you got were grammar-based, yet you didn't improve and and now focusing on what's wrong with grammar posts Ray: wouldn't you agree you missed the point of those grammar posts? K0NY: you aren't grasping what I'm saying Ray: not to say that your grammar is sub-par, but why not let QT3 help you take it to the next level?
