Top Gun started off slow, that’s for sure. It didn't really pick up for me until the 'Volleyball' scene. Then from there on in it was quite funny. Yet I noticed lots of missed riffs and 'dead air' from Mike and Bill. I don’t know if they didn't have the same energy to do this one since it was so close to doing X-Men? But it was dull in several spots. There were repeats on several jokes, like the Scientology stuff wasn’t new and the Alanis Morissette stuff was an almost exact repeat from X-Men.
On the bright side: the riffing that they did was funny. Early in the movie the riffers put an almost "homo-erotic" spin on things and from there on in I just read into every scene the wrong way and I caught myself giggling profusely. Dont get me wrong. It wasn’t the worst rifftrax, but its certainly not the best...and it will always be better then any sitcom on TV. It just didn't have the same out loud laughs that Crossroads or X-Men gave me.

For The first time I find myself disappointed with a Rifftrax. I had high hopes for this one, but the riffing is even sparser than X-Men, with fewer big guffaws. Yes, I enjoyed the lack of PC humor – quips about how gay the movie is, and Bill’s comment about Indians. I enjoyed the way they made fun of the stupid nicknames (Captain Fun was my favorite) and the tedious-as well as confusing-air battles. I liked the nod to another boring fighter pilot film-The MSTed Starfighters-when Mike makes a comment about having ”The sex”. All of these jokes are very… cute, though not especially hilarious. Maybe they’ve spoiled me. Sending me through uproarious hysterics is what I’ve come to expect from Mike and his comrades and Top Gun doesn’t deliver.
