My dad has a problematic hard drive that houses lots of data he wants, unfortunately I can't copy some of it over to a new drive. Specifically a giant inbox.dbx file. Here's what I've tried so far:
Ranish Partition Manager to copy the drive (failed immediately).
HDclone 3.2 on The Ultimate Boot CD (failed after hours spent getting to 21%).
Copying the folders in explorer, one at a time (some files fail, "cyclic redundancy check").
chkdsk (takes a long time, repairs some stuff, then fails, "unknown error").
WinXP drive error checking (takes a long time, lots of files (including inbox.dbx) but no change to performance back in explorer).
I've seen so many evils freed from so many magical prisons in so many video game FMV intros, and yet I cannot bust one file out of a Seagate. What shard must I smash?! |
