I hear you on the used part. In the process of taking off the left shift key for the old keyboard I took off some of the other keys. Let me state that this keyboard was my backup for years. I rarely have meals around it (not due to any holier-than-thou decision on my part: my girlfriend demands I eat dinner with her properly and unlike a troglodyte and rightfully so. She has made me a man, in this.) and more to the point, I am hardly getting haircuts around it. I wipe it down with paper towel and Windex fairly often (the monitor as well).
Well, you wouldn't know any of that, to look deep into the thing beyond the keycaps. I felt sick. It was like the keyboard was used by a shedding Yeti who just fucking loved Corn Flakes. I haven't had a Corn Flake since I was nine, but the invisible cryptid who bangs away at his blog while I am at work apparently does. I would like to put the keyboard on eBay for five bucks or something, because much as Quentin describes below people just throw them out and I feel this one could be salvaged. But there is enough crap floating inside it to implicate me in every single crime that DNA testing was ever used in that has ever been committed in the United States. It's like it's a pocket dimension in there. I have to clean it up before selling it, but in trying to clean it I vomit, thus creating a vicious cycle.
(But yes, Worm your point is well-taken, in that they have new keyboards there.)
I think I'll go with that customizer that Stew linked to. Actually, I remembered how much I enjoyed the keyboard of the Apple II and that gave good feedback just like the Model M does, but I think those keyboards were permanently attached to the actual Apple II, so that's that. I'd add "Buckling Spring" as a favorite porn name in the other thread, but only as a receiver.
