Fresh from exotic Latin America comes the Pitahava, or "Dragonfruit", which is just now starting to see U.S. and Canadian circulation.
Packaging: Resembles a bright red and green pinecone.
Texture: Rubbery outer layer.
Preparation: Usually cut in half and eaten with spoon like a grapefruit.
Taste: Cross between kiwi and watermelon
Pros: Looks pretty. Tastes not bad. Is still new and exotic so you can impress women by showing them how cutting edge you are. Bonus if you make up some bullshit backstory about how the ancient Aztecs believed the fruit was the hearts of the recently buried growing up towards heaven.
Cons: Price. $10(!) per pound. It's good, but not better than steak. Only early adopters will be picking this up. For the rest of us, wait until it becomes available in the produce bargain bin. |

As kiwis already exist and are cheap, it's nothing to get excited about. NT by mark 01/17/2007, 5:11pm PST
