BIG BUSINESS - Here Comes the Waterworks: I'm starting the 2006 list off with a release from 2007, just to shake your expectations to their foundations. The release date of March 2007 means nothing on the internet and to our instant gratification society, so go ahead and download it now ( ">:(" -- blogs of Flea and Jack White). Here Comes the Waterworks is a great continuation of the first Big Business album and you should download both and see them live and everything. Now that Death From Above has disbanded, Big Business are the pre-eminent bass-and-drum duo (after Lightning Bolt).
MELVINS - A Senile Animal: In 2006 Big Business was also half of the Melvins, and the effect of the new blood on the old fat men was huge. A Senile Animal is a return to the major label Melvins sound, and the best Melvins release since Stag. Perhaps Big Business wrote the songs? Performance-wise the addition of a great back-up singer is the best feature of this new union, and the harmonies are everywhere. Unfortunately the second drummer actually cuts into the production, making the album a little sloppier than I'd like, but I guess I've just got to come to grips with the major label glossy days being over.
GOJIRA - From Mars to Sirius: A French band with a Japanese name playing American metal and singing in English. Call Ban Ki-moon, because I'd like to buy the world a Coke. Precision crushing metal. This band might scratch curst's Fear Factory itch (if curst still reads this site).
BLACK DAHLIA MURDER - Miasma: BDM plays BDM (brutal death metal) with chops to spare. This band became more endeared to me once I saw how many metal nerds on YouTube are woodshedding BDM guitar parts: 1 2 3 4 5 6.
SEPULTURA - Dante XXI: I already talked about this, but check out the great video.
And Mastodon and The Sword, of course. |
