Wii short reviews! by Flavio 12/25/2006, 12:56am PST
Wii remote- Fact: Christmas lights fuck with the remote. Japan joins the war on Christmas. Given the $60 apiece price tag and Nintendo's history of only being good for party games, the Wii suddenly isn't looking so much like a cheap alternative.

Excite Truck- When I got behind the wheel of a car for the first time, I thought it was retarded that a slight nudge didn't bank the vehicle 90 degrees like a go-cart. Today, I realize that would be stupid and the lower wheel sensitivity makes handling smoother. Excitetruck reminds me of this as it's impossible to hold the controller completely level and still, sending the truck wobbling back and forth. A Wii game that uses the motion sensing just because it can. Got bored with the multiplayer after one race. Maybe the single player is super fun?

Rayman- Fun collection of Wii remote mini-games, until you hit the outhouse game and the fun crashes to a halt. Fuck that fucking game. I'm convinced a Sony saboteur planted it to swear consumers off the Wii. Minus major points for gay multiplayer (different players take turns to get the highest score).

Wii Sports- Tennis is fun (Virtual Tennis with motion sensing and automatic movement), the rest not so much. Don't listen to anyone who says bowling and golf are fun, since the entire point of playing those games is to get slobs out of the house and socialize, and anyone who ops for the videogame versions is a broken human that should be ignored anyway.

Elebits- This could have been a kickass Magneto simulator or Psi-Ops telekinesis game. Instead they turned it into a bland first person "shooter" that gets old after 2 minutes.

Never got to try Zelda, and Trauma Center for DS was a massively overrated exercise in masochism, so that leaves Wii Sports tennis as the overall winner. The biggest bummer is that all these games feel like tech demos you'd pay $10-$20 for, not $50-$60. Still, it's better than "FPS #24353" the other next gen systems have to offer.
