Pileflanet has the demo on their front page because its such a scary game. So I downloaded it and installed it. The controls are fucking fucked beyond repair. The skills are all so weak I cant use any of them. The up/down look sensitivity is too high, the left/right is too low, no matter what I set the slider at. All the key binds are worthless (SLIDE LEFT/RIGHT instead of strafing just sounds wrong), the inventory doesnt toggle with any button except tab, so I have to hit the crosshair at the bottom of the screen or take my hand off the arrow keys to resume being able to attack anything. I had perhaps 4 healing items when I was killed by a zombie because I was trying to FUCK FIDDLE with my gay ass fucking broken key bindings thanks to this substandard game.
But wow, there are a lot of stats to look at. They did a great job in displaying stats and message logs. Altho deus ex 1 did it better. I suppose besides the actual first person aspect, the game would be tolerable as a quake 2 total conversion. Seems like the solution should have been obvious from the first playtest, allow other buttons to toggle the inventory OFF. And the zombies are perhaps a little creepy altho after doom3 these brightly lit areas make them a lot less scary and easy to kill. I suppose this game would have been more fun if HL/Deus Ex had never been released. |
