Will Farrell moves into his serious phase and lands somewhere between Jim Carrey and Chevy Chase as he plays an IRS agent with zero external interests or material possessions but implausibly amazing taste and soul (not shown until they magically appear in Act 3 where the stiff suddenly turns into the perfect being). The movie encourages us to follow our hearts, but doesn't address that for most people this means watching porn and TV all day. Actual amount of people who want to play Wreckless Eric songs and dream up romantic puns all while being heartbreakingly earnest: one. The writer's imagined self.
The movie also needs a snappier edit. |
