PROS

  • Vehicle camping is gone. Does anyone else notice this? I could just as easily put this into the CONS as "Vehicles are boring and don't matter very much", but I'm a clip-is-half-full kinda guy.

  • I've finally decided on my second unlock tree, and I feel extremely liberated. It's like choosing a major in college. Once graduated, I'll get a job as an Associate DEATH CONSULTANT. My second tree is the left engineer path, which is the following unlocks: piece of shit, piece of shit, piece of shit, and then the PILUM HEAVY ANTI-VEHICLE HOWITZER. I'm already good at sniping, and the Pilum is for sniping vehicles.

  • Pins and other achievements remain very rewarding for whatever reason. Remember when Unreal Tournament pioneered the announcer reacting to your kill streaks and we all thought that was pretty fun? The pins are an extension of that, with the extra aspect of contributing to your career points, a small detail that makes me feel like I'm not wasting my time.

  • Dogtags are still addictive, even though they don't contribute to my score and I'll often try for a dogtag and get killed rather than take the easy shot. So really they're hurting my game, but I've got 39 and I'm proud.

  • All aspects of the pods are awesome. The extra excitement of the squad beacons can't be overstated. Slipping a beacon in behind enemies lines to keep the pressure on is a great strategy addition, not to mention how great it is to pod into areas the enemy is not expecting. I also love the visuals of podding in, combined with the SCREAM just as you leave orbit. Re-birthed back onto the battlefield.

CONS

  • I really really miss the air game. BF2142 will not hold my interest as long as BF2 did, because although the infantry game is more fun, it means there's less variety in the gameplay.

  • Titan mode is really unplayable on my Motherhead 8800 at the best settings, but I persevere because it's fun and I will not sacrifice the look of the non-Titan game.

  • The amount of co-ordination required to efficiently take down a Titan is well beyond the scope of a public server. My last experiment involved planting the demo packs on a console and then hammering the GO GO GO speech button, combined with a TEAM: BACK UP!!!!!!!!! text message, but all it takes is one guy to not pay attention and you've decreased your score. Once in the core it gets even worse. The last time I used explosives in the Titan I went from 20 points to -5. Now I don't use explosives in the Titan at all, and I blame the game design for bringing me to this position. Not for this site. I don't have the time.

  • The actual Pilum projectile should be cooler looking. It's very non-descript, while the Mitchell gets four twisting rockets.

  • I hate the massive inaccuracy of the Rorsch turrets.

  • The recon's stealth camo is the game's biggest let down, due to high expectations . Not really invisible, no weapons while stealthed, plus the need to switch to the camo before engaging, plus a small delay all add up to it being a big waste of time and a waste of a slot. This would make it better: when equipped it's passively engaged whenever you hold shift to run.
