Slate recently shocked the world with the revelation that they mostly favor Kerry for President. They maintain that this doesn't prevent them from being fair and unbiased, even though they wear their opinions on their sleeves. My brother maintains that all opinions are biased by definition and that Slate is stupid. I have a hard time with this, and maintain that a bias is when you allow your beliefs to influence your judgement. Since "opinion" can mean either of those two words, we kinda ran around in circles for two days discussing it. In the process my brother learned what a tautology is and I learned that I've been calling modus ponens modus tollens for the last eight years because I'm retarded. We also learned that defining terms is about 99% of this argument. But otherwise, not much was decided.
Help me prove that it's an unassailable scientific fact that George Bush is horrible. (har har) |
