Technically you can figure out a fight on the first try by Rafiki 10/20/2006, 12:10am PDT But it requires making a mod that will parse incoming combat events and tell you what type they are and add timestamps so you figure out timers. If Blizzard didn't allow mods, their game would be totally fucked and impossible. Boss timers and announcements are nice, but the fact their raid encounters are pretty much designed so that you're required to have them is why they're so broken. In most cases there's not enough time at all to react to certain events without them.
