| It's fun.
There I said it. But for it to stay fun you have to be either an OCD levelling prick or, OR, someone kind of down with hanging out in a loopy world. I like to go fishing and park my pet kitty next to a cooking fire, enjoy the sunset, that sort of thing, right outside of Rachet (neutral town where good guys (Horde) and losers (Alliance) are free to tread), and sling shit at all the Alliance players that cruise me. This is especially fun with a twinked out lvl 60 character on a PVP server, because one can also shoot at people as they run by. WoW is full of little hints to not take it at all seriously. Like, "The One Ring." It's a ring that gives you +1 to all (four) stats. "Slightly better than The Two Ring," reads the item description. Guns are huge and silly-looking, with barrels dangling a foot or two in front of your character and feathers on the end. It's fun to be a big bull-creature and park your giant fuckin lizard mount over the mailboxes in towns - people can't click past your lizard to get their mail. They get angry. Just little things like that. There's a /fart emote. You can get your character drunk in the town on top of all the bluffs, and the booze has a feather falling effect, so you can go bluff diving. There's a travelling fair and you can get your ass shot out of a cannon while the fair's in town. If you play on the RP-specific servers, it's easy to troll people trying really hard to be elves. (Then when nobody's looking you can also make a beautiful fairy princess character and elf your heart out.) The in-game economics system is also surprisingly deep and a nice toy to mess with once you have a pile of cash. So - I guess the short story is that it's an MMORPG that allows you to do many many many things and doesn't require you to do hardly any at all. EXCEPT COMMUTE. Get your ass used to commuting in WoW. |
