TROO STORY (who craes?)
I am playing a map to secure the docks at cherbourg. The strategic points (think flavored DOW resources, manpower munitions and fuel) mostly gave munitions so I got tons of ammo for special weapons and not much to do with them, until I destroy a costal battery, which gives me the ability to rain some howitzer fire from a nearby destroyer or something. I got to use my sniper simply to stealth camo crawl around set not to shoot anyone so I could find groups of bad guys to vaporize. The strike uses purely munitions resource, so instead of attack-moving all my units to attrition the enemy to death or using clever tactics to exploit enemy weaknesses while utilizing my units strengths, I simply spammed a full screen arty strike on every place they happened to be until mission success (the end map cinema scene did say that the harbor was unusable for months because it had been so TRASHED). I even got a medal for preventing the destruction of a docking facility, by shelling the demolition crews as they were briefly revealed by a scripted objectives updating map trigger.
Also, same map at like the very last moment before I won. My bazooka squad was staring down a panzer (yea I didn't actually bother shelling everything after all, thats just not as fun as shelling them for an hour, THEN moving in my forces). In a symbol of my awesome dominance over evil Nazi fucks, the tank and my squad fire at the exact same moment. The tank shell goes over their shoulders and blasts a cone of concrete into dust harmlessly while the bazooka rocket destroys the tank in a gigantic fucking explosion sorta like the results of the same tank shell x100. Which was a really swee effect.
Unfortunatly even on my irl friends highest end computer it runs with all the settings maxed at like 5 fps. I still rocked the fuckin house because I am an RTS veteran of fine high quality. Sadly after I installed the demo on my computer the game refused to even start up, it would just go to a black screen then return to desktop with an error, probably because I dont meet the minimal cpu requirement. So I am going to be sticking with the next DOW expansion for a long time. |
